Yet another drawing for the 100 Pics Challenge. Theme number 69, Annoyance.
Don't have much to say about this one here. I tried to practice drawing faces. Because... Humans are just so hard...
I might color this later on, either on comp after receiving my tablet, or the traditional way, using my oil pastels that haven't been on much use. Perhaps I'll try both digital and traditional coloring, who knows.
Anyway, in case I don't color this, I decided to submit it here already. If I do color it, however, I will most likely scrap this uncolored version.
Those ducks... I'm not sure how to react to them. I want to laugh, but then I notice their eyes--vacant, happy, staring eyes. It creeps me out a little. And then I scroll down more, and see the poor man's face... I just feel sorry for the guy.
Mari, I gotta say, you captured the concept of annoyance *perfectly*. I can't think of a better, more concise way to depict it than what you have here. It's a very nicely composed drawing, simple and very eloquent. His facial expression is so real-- did you use photo reference? It's great how realistic it is, yet your style is still very apparent. For some reason whenever I try to put that much detail into a face it just looks busy, but you crafted it so that he is three-dimensional. Fantastic job, my friend! I still want to laugh a bit when thinking of those ducks...

Muchos gracias! I pretty much feel like laughing, too, when looking at those ducks. But you're right on that they're a little eerie as well, with those empty eyes and big smiles. o.o Hadn't really thought about that too much before you said it. I just thought that they bother me for some reason, and now I know why.
Poor guy, indeed. It looks like he's got one damn annoying song stuck in his brain! Wouldn't want to be in his place. But to answer your question: No, I didn't use any reference. It just kind of... happened. Accidently. I was thinking about how human head represents pretty much the shape of an egg, upside down, and gave it a shot. Then I just drew some lines here and there and waited anxiously what would come out of it.
After the face I drew the ducks... And now I can't stop thinking how creepy those ducks actually are. The only thing interrupting these thoughts of mine is my father's snoring. X'D
Whoa, you're right... never thought about the similarity between a human head and an egg like that. Hmm... so ... is it a duck egg? XD I don't think those things need to reproduce.

Duck egg, eh? XD I don't know, maybe! Or perhaps our regular chicken egg. Those things should reproduce since they taste good! MWAHAHAHA! Excuse moi, all vegetarians and animal lovers.
Those ducks remind me of Dr. Suess books, heheh...
To make it seem more natural, you can break the symmetry of the face a little by making some of the parts uneven. It might add to the composition as well as the mood of the piece. But it looks good so far and has that real intense feel to it.
Haha, yeah, I gotta say I agree with you. I have this problem of making faces too symmetric when I draw them from the front view... I really should try to break it up a little bit, at least make some strong highlights to the other side and some strong shading on the other or something.
